So many parents look forward to summer, but keeping kids busy can be challenging, especially for working parents. Of course, we have summer camps where children can have enriching learning experiences. But what if camps are just not for your family? It is still possible to keep your kids mentally stimulated and occupied if you plan well. Make a list as a family of all the fun things they can do, and include plenty of ideas for independent play. You should include a good chunk for reading every day. If your child does not like reading, offer a reward for reading. Better yet, sign up for the multiple reading programs that offer free stuff and be entered to win free money to spend on more books your child enjoys. Summer reading programs not only keep your child engaged but also enhance their reading skills, vocabulary, and comprehension, setting them up for academic success.
Here are a few reading programs for you to consider.

Everyday Reading’s Free Summer Reading Chart
Jansen from Everyday Reading has an excellent reading chart your child can use to read and color along as they go, which includes different reading activities. I printed one for each of my kids using Engineering print (which I learned from her) in large, and my kids have already started coloring. She also has undated charts from previous years so you can pick a different theme based on your child’s interest.
