Advent Countdown – A 20-Day Family Devotional

I created an advent devotional this year and am excited to share it with all of you. I recently shared it with family and friends, and the question they asked was – what is Advent and who is it for? So let’s start there.

What is Advent, and who is it for?

The word Advent comes from the Latin term ‘adventus’ meaning ‘arrival.’ During Christmas, it refers to the anticipated birth/arrival of Jesus. Today, Advent is a time spent reflecting and preparing to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It is observed in the four weeks leading up to Christmas. There are many ways we can observe this. One way is to take some time as a family to talk about what Christmas is all about. We live in a world where commercialization creates the joy of Christmas. Let’s bring our children and families back to the true reason for the season.

We have an amazing opportunity to spend quality time as a family reflecting on what Christmas truly means in our hearts and homes. We can teach our kids to show extra love, kindness, and goodness this season. We can show them how to give to those who don’t have much. And we can spend quality time in the presence of God as a family, reflecting on God’s purpose for us.

How do I use the family devotional?

There are 20 days of devotionals. You can skip the weekends or pick any 20 days to do them as a family. Find a time in the day when the whole family can come together. The devotional will teach you, and your kids about the prophecies foretold and the story of Jesus’ birth on that Christmas night more than 2000 years ago. You can do short and simple activities at the end of the devotional. If you purchased the set, refer to the card “What you will need.” This list has simple things like paper, pens, blocks, toys, etc.

Do I (a parent) need to know the Bible references to do this with my kids?

No, the devotional is designed so you can read a script to your child and learn along with them.

What does a typical day look like?

  1. Let us Remember: Each day starts with recollecting what was learned previously. (There is an answer key card you can use.)
  2. Let us Learn: It leads to a topic for the day. This section will direct you to read the verse of the day.
  3. Verse of the Day: This verse will tie into the story you will hear for that day.
  4. Let us Do: Each day ends with a simple activity that links beautifully to the day’s topic.
  5. Let us Pray: Lastly, everyone can repeat the short prayer to end the devotional.

What is the format of the cards?

There are twenty-five 4X6 sturdy cards (16 pt) with UV gloss coating that are shrink-wrapped and come in cute jute drawstring bags for easy storage. The cards include 20 days of devotional and five cards with instructions, maps, answer keys, etc.

Where can I purchase them, and how much do they cost?

You can buy them on my Etsy Shop by clicking here. The set of cards is $24.99, and the first 20 orders will also recieve 5 Christmas bookmarks for free. (Also available for sale at $4.99)

When will they ship?
